It’s time to play sports with confidence again.

Meet Mike. Mental Performance Coach & LPC Associate in Frisco, TX.

Supervised by Courtney Messina, M.A., LPC-S, LCDC

You’re feeling the pressure to be your best. Expectations to perform feel like a burden from the time the game begins till long after the game is over. You work hard to achieve the impressive goals that you set for yourself but lately you’ve had a hard time overcoming the obstacles in front of you.

When you play sports you feel stressed, afraid, nervous, and worried about what will happen. You’re not sure if you can play up to the level that you think you can and you’re worried about what will happen if you come up short again. You’re dealing with self-doubt but are worried that your teammates and coaches have lost faith in you too. Your recent slide in performance is beginning to feel permanent and that makes you afraid. You’ve tried to make adjustments but nothing seems to make a change. You cycle between feeling distressed and disappointed, and now you’re not sure if playing your sport is worth this feeling.

What if you could stop doubting yourself and be confident as an athlete again? You’re strong and mentally tough, but you wish you had a place to talk this out. Here, you’re allowed to be open about your experience. This is a place where you can talk without judgment.

I work with athletes just like you. Successful and ambitious athletes who want to be in control of their game day nerves, play sports with confidence, overcome their recent slump, and deal with feelings of burnout. Athletes come to me because they don’t want to struggle alone anymore.

Our time together will be focused on you. When appropriate, we may draw inspiration from great athletes and coaches who had to overcome the same hurdles you’re facing in order to realize their full potential. Ultimately, we will always turn our focus back to what your challenges mean to you. We will work to create a positive environment while also acknowledging the difficulty of what you’re experiencing. Athletes can struggle with the mental side of sports but rarely do they have a place where they feel comfortable addressing the barriers they’re facing.

It’s not only normal to work on your mental performance, but you may find that it’s to your advantage. Mental performance coaching is about identifying your strengths as an athlete and the traits you wish were stronger. When we work together you don’t just get a coach. You get a teammate who is right there with you to support you through this journey. Over time, you’ll notice that the changes and strategies we discuss in session can transfer into your sport.

I’ll work with you to reach your full potential.

I know what it’s like to be in your shoes because I’ve been there myself. I’ve battled adversity in my own career as an athlete and found my way through difficult times. I know that it can be exhausting to do this alone but with the right support you too can overcome this. Sometimes, I’ll relate my own experience as an athlete to what you’re currently going through. I ultimately want to get down to what the problem is and what it means to you.

My training is in an educational and counseling approach to sport psychology. I have the expertise to help you learn the tools to be successful and identify the unhelpful thinking patterns that are holding you back to begin with. Ultimately, you want to know you’re working with someone who understands what you’re going through and how it’s impacting you.
